Preparing for Your Session
Getting your horse ready for their massage helps ensure a calm, comfortable, and effective session. A few simple steps before I arrive can make a big difference in how relaxed and responsive your horse feels during their bodywork. These preparations create a safe environment, support the flow of the session, and help your horse get the most out of their massage.

Preparation
-
Brush your horse off before the appointment
-
Refrain from using dry shampoo or oils
-
Remove any poultice from their legs
-
A hay snack beforehand or during the session is perfectly fine
Where the Massage Takes Place
You may hold your horse, stall‑tie, cross‑tie, or tie at a hitching post during the session. This setup allows me to work safely and effectively, using both hands to deliver a thorough, high‑quality massage.
If the Horse Is Uncomfortable
-
If your horse is unsure or uncomfortable, I will always work at their pace—especially during their first session.
-
While I prefer the owner or handler to be present, they do not need to be hands‑on throughout the entire session. For a horse’s first massage, I do require the owner or a responsible handler to be present, as their presence helps the horse feel more relaxed and supported.
-
If a horse continually resists the massage or displays aggressive behavior, I will stop the session for the safety of both the horse and myself. At that point, I may recommend contacting your veterinarian for further guidance. In these cases, the session fee still applies, though it may be adjusted depending on the time spent with the horse.
