Equine Massage

Equine Massage is a non-invasive therapy practice used on horses that use the hands to influence muscles. A horse’s optimal movement can be compromised due to injury, incorrect saddle fit, pain and inflammation, repetitive movements, strenuous exercise, arthritis, or emotional stress, and all this will affect the soft tissue. As this occurs, the horse may exert behaviors such as aggression, dominance, unwilling to move, refusal, or simply just feeling off.  The muscles and the fascia are restricted. Without outside manipulation, this restriction will not go away on its own.

During a massage, the hands can feel the tension, tightness, restriction, atrophy, trigger points (knots), and spasms; however, this work can greatly improve the soft tissue condition. Massage will help get those muscles released, eliminate trigger points, get circulation flowing again so the horse can move more freely with better range of motion, and feel better!  Massage is good for any horse, at any level, at any age.

Benefits of Massage

  • Once restriction is released, the blood flow and oxygen begin to circlate in that muscle again!

  • Muscles receive nutrients again!

  • Helps relieve pain, tension, and discomfort!

  • Muscle bellies get supple (elastic)!

  • Stimulates waste and toxin elimination!

  • Relaxes and softens tired or overused muscles!

  • Awakens weak and inactive muscles!

  • The horse gets happier!

Lori's Equine Massage has the right to dismiss any client as seen necessary for reasons of excessive canceling or rescheduling, not paying at time of session, not preparing the horse for the massage, or the horse needs to be seen by a veterinarian. In some cases, a veterinarian will need to approve massage therapy before massage can be scheduled. Owners should always be truthful about the condition(s) of the horse as there are some contraindications.

Owners are to be prepared for the massage session; brush off the horse, clean off any poultice from legs, have the horse calm and ready as this is important work. The horse should either be held by Owner or must be able to stand in cross ties or at hitching post. If the horse is not accepting the work, not wanting to be touched, continuously moving around, nipping, biting, kicking, shows aggressive behavior, the massage will be discontinued, and pricing may still apply.

About Me

Hello, my name is Lori Gianforte.

I got into horses almost a decade and a half ago and I think horses are amazing animals. Their beauty, strength, athleticism, and their willing to be with humans is impressive. What the horse has done for us for centuries is invaluable.

As a horse owner, I questioned if anyone ever massaged their muscles. At the time I asked that question, it was limited; so, I got certified! The horses’ muscles fascinate me and the biomechanics keep me learning.

As a Certified Equine Massage Therapist, I strongly believe in equine massage and how it delivers so much good to the horse. I do this because I know how good this therapy is for horses, even my own horse. As much as horses do for humans, this is not about ‘spoiling’ them, it is truly about ‘helping’ them.

If I am your Equine Massage Therapist, you have my word that I will continue educating myself to assure I give your horse my best service so they feel good and enjoy the experience.
